An impressive Paris side keep the run going against Reims!

Match reports

Paris Saint-Germain won against Stade de Reims, this Sunday, in the last game of matchday 22 of Ligue 1, with some surprising goalscorers (4-0)! Here’s a look back on this great victory...

A week after a victory at the Parc des Princes against Brest (2-0), Paris Saint-Germain returned to their home to face Reims. The stakes were high: to fine-tune the team's system, to continue a fantastic run at home and, of course, to consolidate their position at the top of the table. Still without many players - out through injuries and departures for the African Cup of Nations -, Mauricio Pochettino had two pieces of good news with the returns of Kylian Mbappé and Sergio Ramos!

In an almost empty Parc des Princes, frozen by the cold weather in the capital, the Parisians knew that it was not the atmosphere that would be the key to the match. And very quickly, they understood that on the pitch too, the task would not be easy... Because the matches come thick and fast and the scenario is the same for the Rouge et Bleu. Once again, Paris had to be content with looking for solutions to the visitors' defensive set up by playing high up on the pitch.

After a timid start from Reims, Oscar Garcia's men tried to fight on the other side of the pitch, but the Parisian defence remained solid, determined to protect Keylor Navas, led by the authoritative Sergio Ramos. And when necessary, the Costa Rican made the saves, as he did from Mbuku's first shot on target (27').

But what could be better than breaking the deadlock at a key moment, just before the break? And it was Marco Verratti who surprisingly stepped up to the plate to score! The Italian was free, and he unleashed an unstoppable shot that hit the post and ended up in the back of the net (1-0, 44'). A week after hitting the post against Brest, the n°6 scored his first goal for 4 years!

With this advantage, the players from the capital were able to shift into second gear after the break, putting together a series of combinations. Mauricio Pochettino's introduction of Leo Messi confirmed their desire to add to the score, but it was a different legend who took the honours. Sergio Ramos was quicker than his markers when he pounced on a corner from Angel Di Maria to score the second Parisian goal, thus unlocking his account in our colours! (2-0, 64').

It was a special night for Marco Verratti. The Italian midfielder had already scored, and he was again decisive, firing in a deflected shot that hit the back of the net (3-0, 67').
Paris had to keep the pressure on to seal their victory. It was the perfect opportunity to add to the scoreline. And it was Danilo who finally found the opening with a powerful shot after a perfect pass from Kylian Mbappé (4-0, 75').

As a result, our Rouge et Bleu continue their run at the top of the table with two wins and two clean sheets in a row. Mission accomplished! See you in 8 days in our backyard against Nice, to keep the beautiful unbeaten run at the Parc des Princes...
