All you need to know: UEFA Champions League group stage draw

The UEFA Champions League group stage draw takes place in Istanbul on Thursday - we've got you covered with how it all works.

format

- The teams are divided into four pots.

- Pot 1: The holders, the UEFA Europa League winners, and the champions of the six top-ranked nations who didn't qualify by winning one of the two European club competitions in 2020/21.

- Pots 2, 3 & 4: determined by the club's UEFA coefficient ranking.

- No team can play another team from the same association, i.e. Paris Saint-Germain cannot be drawn in the same group as Lille.

- For associations with two representatives, the clubs are organised into groups so that they do not play their games on the same day. For associations with four teams, two groups of two are made based on television audiences.
