All you need to know: Monaco - Paris Saint-Germain

The stakes, the stats and the history of Friday's Ligue 1 encounter at the Stade Louis II.

A little history...

It'll be the 104th competitive meeting between the two. Only Bordeaux have played Paris more times (106).

The Parisians trail the Monegasques with 31 wins to 44 defeats, but their fortunes have improved drastically in recent years. Paris Saint-Germain are on a 12-match unbeaten run (11 wins) against Monaco, and haven't lost since 28 August 2016 (3-1 in Ligue 1).

Paris Saint-Germain have only ever played one competitive game without a coach on the bench since 1970, and it came against Monaco. Following the surprise resignation of Pierre Alonzo and the return of Velibor Vasovic, club President Francis Borelli picked the team that lined up in the principality in a 2-1 defeat on 4 November 1978.

Thirty-six players have played for both teams: Jimmy Algerino, Jean-Kevin Augustin, Ali Benarbia, Daniel Bernard, Daniel Bravo, Edouard Cissé, Alain Couriol, Eric Cubilier, Omar Da Fonseca, James Debbah, Abdou Diallo Youri Djorkaeff, Jean-Pierre Dogliani, Louis Floch, Marcelo Gallardo, Franck Gava, Xavier Gravelaine, Bernard Guignedoux, Ludovic Giuly, Layvin Kurzawa, Yvon Leroux, Mickael Madar, Kylian Mbappé, Jéremy Menez, Nenê, Alex Nyarko, Christian Perez, José Karl Pierre-Fanfan, Fabrice Poullain, Bruno Rodriguez, Jean-Louis Rostagni, Jérôme Rothen, Amara Simba, Marco Simone, George Weah and Arthur Zagre.

Edinson Cavani netted 15 goals against Monaco, the most of any Paris Saint-Germain player. Angel Di Maria and Carlos Bianchi (6 goals) are next with Kylian Mbappé and Neymar (5) and Amara Diané (4) following.

The stakes...

The Rouge-et-Bleu are on a run of eight straight league wins (Metz 1-0, Nice 3-0, Reims 2-0, Angers 6-1, Nîmes 4-0, Dijon 4-0, Nantes 3-0 and Rennes 3-0). The club record stands at 14 victories in the 2018/19 season. The second-best is nine, which has been done on four occasions: 2014-2015, 2015-2016 (twice) and 2017-2018.

Keys to the game...

Paris Saint-Germain can count on their defence, which has conceded just three goals in ten league games since the start of the season, registering seven clean sheets. It's the best record at this stage of a top-flight season since also conceding three in ten games in 1996/97.

Mbappe

Paris Saint-Germain have kept four successive clean sheets away from home: Nice (3-0), Reims (2-0), Nîmes (4-0), Nantes (3-0). They'll equal the club record of 2003/04 and 2015/16 with another if they don't concede in Monaco.

Paris have scored 41 times in the last 11 competitive games between the two teams, 3.72 goals per game.

Kylian Mbappé could close in on his 100th goal in Paris colours: he's struck 97 times so far, and has scored five times in his last three matches against his former club, including a brace in January last season (1-4).
