Two world championship medals for Paris Saint-Germain Judo

Paris's Saint-Germain's judokas have won two medals in the individual events at the World Judo Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Romano Dicko was crowned world champion in the +78 kg event, whilst Amandine Buchard picked up the bronze medal in the 52 kg event. On top of this came the silver medal in the mixed team event.

Five Rouge et Bleu athletes were taking part in the 2022 World Judo Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Amandine Buchard (52 kg), Marie-Ève Gahié (70 kg), Romane Dicko (+78 kg), Alpha Djalo (81 kg) and Alexis Mathieu (90 kg) competed in the individual events in their respective categories before taking part in the team event with France.

Dicko and Buchard stood out in particular, earning themselves the world title in the women's heavyweight category and the bronze medal in the women's half-lightweight category respectively.

In the mixed team event, Paris Saint-Germain's representatives also picked up the silver medal with France.

In the other individual categories, Djalo was knocked out in the second round of the men's half-middleweight event by Georgian world no. 1 Tato Grigalashvili, whilst Mathieu was beaten in the second round of the men's middleweight event by Brazil's Marcelo Gomes. Gahié, meanwhile, bowed out at the round-of-16 stage of the women's middleweight event after losing to Japan's Saki Niizoe.

"The outcome of these World Championships is very encouraging for the club's judokas, said Djamel Bouras, President of Paris Saint-Germain Judo. Romane Dicko's first world title at just 23 years old is an immense source of pride for Paris Saint-Germain, as is the bronze medal for Amandine Buchard, who, year upon year, is confirming that she is one of the very best. Of course, my thoughts also go out to our other judokas, who have been exemplary. Although Marie-Ève, Alpha and Alexis didn't make it into the podium, they bounced back perfectly to contribute to France's silver medal in the mixed team event. We remain convinced of their potential, and we are confident ahead of our upcoming challenges. In a few weeks' time, we'll be competing in the Champions League, and our athletes' performances are reassuring in view of our aim of winning a second consecutive European title."
