Thiago Motta leaves Paris Saint-Germain by mutual agreement
Paris Saint-Germain and Thiago Motta have reached a mutual agreement to release the former midfielder from the last year of his contract as coach of the U19 team. Thiago will now be able to continue his coaching studies at the Italian Federal Technical Centre in Coverciano.
The 36 year-old took over the reins of the U19 team in June 2018, reaching second place in Group A of the French U19 Championship and helping several talented players from the Paris Saint-Germain Youth Academy to progress to the senior team.
Thiago joined Paris Saint-Germain in January 2012 from Inter Milan, beginning a magnificent chapter in his career where he won 18 of his 27 trophies in the Rouge et Bleu shirt before retiring as a player in 2018. The former Italian international (30 caps) played 231 matches in total for Paris Saint-Germain, scoring 12 goals and providing 18 assists in total, making his mark on the recent history of Paris Saint-Germain.
The club thanks Thiago Motta for his brilliant career at Paris Saint-Germain and wishes him all the best in his future projects.
"I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to Thiago Motta, who was one of our major players this decade," said Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, Chairman and CEO of Paris Saint-Germain. “Thiago's talent, personality and sense of ambition have enabled the club to enter a new dimension. For seven and a half years, Thiago has brought us his professionalism, enormous experience and expertise in football. At the end of his career Thiago wanted to pass on his passion for football, especially to our youngest players. We are really pleased to have helped him take his first steps in coaching with PSG, which will always be his home. I wish him every success in his new career."
