PSG.Talon earn their place in the Main Event of the League of Legends World Championships

It's the end of the Worlds 2020 Play-In and despite conditions not being in our favour, our team, PSG.Talon finished at the top of Group B and qualified for the Main Event, which will be played this weekend in Shanghai. A look back at our underdogs' incredible run.

Things had started badly for PSG.Talon. The new team born out of the partnership between PSG Esports and the Hong Kong-based team Talon Esports in June, had to do without three of their five players. The reason? Visa problems... The team therefore needed to call up three replacements, a catastrophic situation given that the synergy needed between players in order to compete at the highest level, can't be built in just a couple of days...

In spite of that, the reworked team had a surprise in store as they won their first two matches on the first day of competition. The first was won against Rainbow7 thanks to Taiwanese Esports player Chen 'Uniboy' Chang-Chu, who led his team and proved to everybody that the team was not to be disregarded. But it was really the second encounter that got people talking: PSG.Talon smashed big rivals LGD Gaming, who were considered the favourites going into the Play-In. These two unexpected victories, combined with the fact that our team had to undergo a last minute reshuffling, created a lot of enthusiasm for the start of the competition. The proof being the spike in audience figures for the clash between PSG vs LGD, which picked up more than a million spectators. A figure that doesn't include the Chinese audience, which is known to be huge.

After this incredible start, our team fell to defeat in the only match on day two of the competition against the reigning champions of the league, Unicorns of Love, before winning on day three against V3 Esports, ensuring their place in the top two of a highly competitive Group B. For this third match, we were able to see one of our unavailable players return: 'Unified'. After the group stage matches, PSG.Talon sat on equal points with Russian side Unicorns of Love. A tie-break was therefore required to separate the two sides and decide who would take the top spot: an opportunity for our team to get revenge on the only team to have beaten them during the Play-In… And they did just that!

PSG.Talon finished the Play-In with a record of 4 victories to just one defeat. An incredible journey that didn't disappoint the crowds and social media, comparing the performances of the Franco-Taiwanese side to those of PSG in the Champions League. PSG.Talon will now participate in the Main Event of the League of Legends World Championships against the best sides in the world on 3 October.

For the Main Event, PSG.Talon find themselves in Group B, alongside Rogue, JD Gaming and DAMWON Gaming. And the first test for our side will see us face the famous Korean team, DAMWON. A first test that promises to be a tough one! This will be followed by an encounter with JD Gaming and their group stage will end against the reputed European side, Rogue. We wish the team the very best and hope to see some incredible performances. Everything is in their hands. Ici, c’est Paris!
