Alkass Cup: A draw to finish, next step the semi-finals!
Paris Saint-Germain's U16 team drew 1-1 with Al Ahly on the 3rd and final Matchday of the group phase in the Alkass International Cup in Qatar. The Parisians finished first and are through to the semi-finals!
the story
After the 1-1 draw between Real Madrid and Kashiwa Reysol earlier in the day, our Parisians, who had already qualified for the rest of the competition, were even assured of top spot in their group before their third match against Al Ahly of Egypt.
This was not a sign to get complacent, but the Parisians were caught off guard on the half-hour mark (0-1, 33'), and Said opened the scoring for the Egyptians, who were hoping to finish with a win, having already been condemned to 4th place in the group. The result would do nothing to change Yannick Dumas's men's final position in the standings, but they showed their tenacity and found a late equaliser through Noha Tiehi, who had come on as a substitute earlier in the game (1-1, 80+6). With two wins and a draw, the Parisians finished with the highest total of the two groups combined (7 points, compared with 6 for Seattle, winners of Group A).
the next match
Having qualified for the last four of the competition, the Parisians will take on the runners-up in Group A, Scotland's Glasgow Rangers. The match will be played on Thursday 20th February at 1.30pm French time.
The other semi-final sees Real Madrid take on Seattle Sounders, also on Thursday at 4.05pm.
