Brazil at the Parc des Princes, act 7
Brazil are playing a prestigious match against Tunisia at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday evening, a pitch that the Seleção players have already played on six times since the stadium was built in 1972.
A look back at these first six games in which the Brazilian national team won four times, drew once and lost just once, in their first match against Les Bleus 44 years ago.
Act 1, 1 April 1978, friendly: France-Brazil 1-0
Brazil, who were unbeaten for four years and were favourites to win the World Cup in Argentina, had never been beaten in their history by the French national team. It was a Michel Platini goal that was enough for Les Bleus to win this historical first match against the Brazilians and the stars Rivelino, Zico, Cerezo and Dirceu.
Act 2, 15 May 1981, friendly: France-Brazil 1-3
France celebrated Brazil and its King Pele, who was voted Sportsman of the Century and was celebrated by the Parc des Princes before the match. Three years after their surprise defeat by Les Bleus, the Brazilian national team dominated this time and won in style, led by the Zico and Socrates duo.
Act 3, 26 August 1992, friendly: France-Brazil 0-2
Eleven years after Socrates, his younger brother Rai was present at the Parc des Princes with Brazil. With Ricardo and Valdo on the Brazilian side, Alain Roche, Laurent Fournier and David Ginola for Les Bleus, Paris Saint-Germain took centre stage in a match won by the Auriverde team.
Act 4, 20 April 1994, friendly: Paris Saint-Germain-Brazil 0-0
Paris Saint-Germain, on their way to the French championship, organised a high-profile friendly match with Brazil and its captain Rai, who played against his Parisian team-mates. The match ended in a goalless draw, a few months before the Brazilians won the 1994 World Cup in the USA.
Act 5, 10 June 1997, French tournament: Brazil-England 1-0
The Parc des Princes was packed to the rafters as Brazil, led by their attacking duo of Ronaldo-Romario, beat England. Despite the loss, England would go on to win the French tournament ahead of Brazil, who were unbeaten after two draws against France (1-1) and Italy (3-3) in Lyon.
Act 6, 27 June 1998, World Cup: Brazil-Chile 4-1
Brazil easily qualified for the quarter-finals of the World Cup against Chile, with a double from Ronaldo. With a three-goal lead at half-time, the Brazilian team entertained the Parisian crowd at the Parc des Princes during a World Cup won by France on 12 July 1998.
Note: In 1976 and 1979, Paris Saint-Germain played the Brazilian Olympic team in the Paris tournament, which we have not included in this article.
