50 successive Ligue 1 seasons for Paris!

Paris Saint-Germain have been in the French top flight since 1974, putting them on a run well ahead of the next-best side, Lyon, ever-presents in Ligue 1 since only 1989.

No other French team has played 50 successive Ligue 1 seasons. The next-best is Nantes with 44 (1963 to 2007).

But how does the capital club measure up against other teams in Europe's top five leagues?

PSG are a young club (founded in 1970) but already have a place among the biggest teams on the continent…

GERMANY

Only one German club can boast a longer top-flight stay than the Parisians: Bayern Munich joined the elite in 1965. Paris Saint-Germain are on a better run than Borussia Dortmund (1976) and Bayer Leverkusen (1979).

ENGLAND

Arsenal lead the way with a top-flight presence since 1919. Behind the Gunners are Everton (since 1954) and Liverpool (1962). Paris are ahead of Manchester United (1975), Tottenham (1978) Chelsea (1989) and Manchester City (2002).

SPAIN

Spain presents a unique case with three clubs in La Liga since 1928: FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao. Behind those three is Valencia (since 1986), Espanyol (1994), Sevilla FC (1999), Atlético de Madrid (2002), Real Zaragoza (2008) and Real Sociedad (2010).

ITALY

Two clubs boast longer top-flight stays: Inter Milan (91 season, since 1929, no league between 1943 and 1945) and AS Roma (since 1952). Paris are on a longer streak than AC Milan (since 1983), Lazio (1988), Juventus and Napoli (since 2007).

Paris Saint Germain are, therefore, tenth in terms of the longest streaks at the top level in Europe's top five leaves. Not bad for a team that's just over 50 years old.

Clubs with the longest top-flight streaks in Europe's top five leagues:

1. Arsenal (since 1919)
2. Athletic Bilbao, FC Barcelona, Real Madrid (since 1928)
