50 legendary matches: Manita at the Vélodrome

As part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the club from the capital, PSG.FR gives you the chance to relive some of the greatest matches in the history of Paris Saint-Germain. Today, a look back to one of Paris Saint-Germain's greatest wins at the Stade Vélodrome.

Unai Emery's Paris Saint-Germain arrived at the Stade Vélodrome full of confidence on 26 February 2017. This despite the face that Les Rouge et Bleu weren't top of the table and were chasing AS Monaco, who seemed incapable of faltering, and so a result in Marseille was crucial. In an incredible atmosphere, Paris quickly turned the match in their own favour and silenced the home crowd.

Les Marseillais started the game with a high press, with a desire to make things as uncomfortable as possible for Emery's men (who started with Di Maria and Draxler on the bench in this Classique). But straight away, Marquinhos punished the hosts, after receiving the ball from his captain Thiago Silva, and the Paris number 5 crucified Pelé and found the back of the net (0-1, 5').

Les Phocéens tried to react through Payet, but his curled effort couldn't beat Kevin Trapp (8'). Then, Les Parisiens really got into gear, Verratti found Pastore who played first time into Cavani and the Uruguayan was through on Pelé. Edi beat the Marseille keeper with a subtle right footed effort which rolled into the open goal (0-2, 16').

Marseille were stunned and couldn't recover from these two uppercuts. Paris extended their lead again quickly in the second half, when Lucas connected with a Kurzawa cross that the Marseille defence couldn't quite clear (0-3, 49'). Things got worse for Les Olympiens, when Draxler, who had come on just minutes before, connected with an inch perfect cross from Meunier (0-4, 61').

Rod Fanni reduced the lead (1-4, 69'), but immediately after, Matuidi got Les Parisiens' fifth of the encounter at the Vélodrome, with a left-footed effort (1-5, 71').

Without a doubt, one of the best memories in the history of Classiques!
