Dominique Bathenay: "Always very emotional"
The former Rouge et Bleu captain looks back fondly on the 1982 Coupe de France victory and looks ahead to the 2025 final between PSG and Reims at the Stade de France on Saturday 24 May!
Dominique, what memories do you have of winning the Coupe de France in 1982?
"It was the first major trophy that Paris Saint-Germain won, and I was lucky enough to be the captain. So it's a very fond memory. And PSG have won many more since then – the club loves the Coupe de France!"
What did that victory mean to everyone at the club?
"It was very important, for me too, because I had arrived at PSG four years earlier and I hadn't won any trophies at the club, even though I had won a lot before, so on a personal level it was very important. And for the club, it was a first, at the end of a match that had many twists and turns, making it the longest final in history... It's a great memory."
It's an important competition that matters to the players and the fans...
"It's the competition that brings all of French football together. All the clubs play in the Coupe de France and dream of winning it. And for the players, it's something beautiful. A final is always special; it's always very emotional. I hope Paris win this Coupe de France, also to put themselves in the best possible position for the other final that awaits them."
