12 August 1970 - 12 August 2024: Happy birthday Paris Saint-Germain!
It's Paris Saint-Germain's 54th birthday today.
The official birth of the club came about from a process that started on 27 May 1970 when the General Assembly of the P.F.C. Association, mandated by the French Football Federation to create a club in Paris, unanimously adopted the principle of a fusion with S.S.G. (Stade de Saint-Germain), which was set to play in Ligue 2 that coming season.
On 4 June, in a vote of 85 in favour, 5 against and an abstention, Stade Sangermanois accepted to cede its football department to Paris Football Club, and approved the new name, Paris Saint-Germain F.C.
On 26 June, at an Extraordinary Meeting of the new club's Administrative Council, the creation of Paris Saint-Germain was confirmed, with 27 geographical sectors also set up, each grouping together between 400 and 600 associates.
Three new administrators arrived too, including Jean Chastang, Mayor of Saint-Germain-en-Laye.
They ceded some of their powers to the club's board, headed by President Pierre-Étienne Guyot and vice-presidents Guy Crescent and Henri Patrelle.
On 8 August 1970, Association P.F.C asked for its name to be changed to "Paris Saint-Germain Football-Club".
The letter, which was sent to the Prefecture of Police in Paris, arrived on 11 August and the name change was accepted the following day, and made official on 27 August 1970.
Happy birthday Paris Saint-Germain !
