Women's World Cup Diary

After Sabrina Delannoy and Laure Boulleau, another former Paris Saint-Germain player, Nadia Benmokhtar, gives her thoughts on how the club's players have progressed at the FIFA Women's World Cup so far.

The Last 16

The first Parisian to leave the competition was Ashley Lawrence. Against all expectations, Canada were knocked out by Sweden, despite a fine display from the Parisian player. It was then the turn of Irene Paredes and Spain, though they very nearly caused a surprise by beating the USA. Wang Shuang and China then headed home — it was one of the most keenly contested encounters of the round, but Italy squeezed through to continue their surprise run in the tournament.

Five Parisians in the quarter-finals

Hanna Glas and a solid Sweden side are through to the last eight after that win over Canada. Sara Däbritz scored against Nigeria to help her team progress with a 3-0 win. Then there are the trio of Paris Saint-Germain players in the France squad, who set up a quarter-final collision with the USA by beating Brazil.

The quarter-final fixtures

While the ties pitting Italy against the Netherlands and Norway versus England will not feature any Paris Saint-Germain players, the meeting of the host nation and the USA at our home, the Parc des Princes, most certainly will. There will also be two Paris players in action when Germany face Sweden — good luck to all of them!
