Women's team run riot in Braga

A 7-0 defeat of the Portuguese champions in the first leg of their UEFA Women's Champions League Round of 32 tie gave the capital club the ideal start to their European campaign.

It didn't take long for the Rouge-et-Bleu to make their mark on their first European trip of the season. Kadidiatou Diani's burst into the box ended with a foul by Sara Gomes, and Marie-Antoinette Katoto scored from the penalty spot (0-1, 7'). She was then picked out by Sara Däbritz to make it two shortly after the half-hour (0-2, 32'). The Germany international delivered her second assist, flighting over a free-kick for Formiga to make it three, just before the interval (0-3, 41').

The second half was only a handful of seconds old when Irene Paredes played a ball over the home back four, Diani took a great touch and then chipped the advancing Rute Costa with an even better one to extend the visitors' advantage (0-4, 47'). An inch-perfect cross allowed Katoto to complete her hat-trick (0-5, 61'), just before she was replaced by Jordyn Huitema. The young Canadian enjoyed her competition debut by firing home in added time (0-6, 90+3') and even added a second with the final kick of the game after being played through by Karina Saevik (0-7, 90+5') to cap an emphatic win by Olivier Echouafni's side.

It means they have a huge advantage to take into the second leg on 26 September at the Stade Jean Bouin, kick-off 20:30. Before that, they have a D1 game at home to Dijon to negotiate on Sunday, kick-off 16:30CEST.
