The women's team taken down by Lyon

Beaten for the first time in the league this season, Paris Saint-Germain saw their title hopes take a major blow.

Five months after their engaging first contest in the French capital (1-1), the French top-flight's unbeaten league leaders met at the Groupama Stadium. A heavyweight contest was in prospect, and the hosts landed the first blow through their Ballon d'Or forward Hegerberg, who headed home the opener (1-0, 8'). Paris might have had a penalty when the ball appeared to strike Mbock's arm (24'), but Le Sommer (2-0, 40') and then Renard from the spot (3-0, 45+1') after a Paris handball gave Lyon the initiative.

The mountain to climb got bigger after the break when Marozsan, picked out by Hegerberg, beat Kiedrzynek (4-0, 60'). The 25 907 crowd at the Groupama Stadium (a record for a women's match in France) were enjoying themselves, even if Paredes might have dampened the party mood a little (78'). Lyon had the last word though through Van de Sanden, who had come off the bench 20 minutes earlier (5-0, 90+2').
The scoreline might have been flattering, but it was not undeserved as Lyon inflicted a first defeat in 20 top-flight matches on Paris Saint-Germain, who now look unlikely to stop their opponents claiming a 13th successive title…
