The Parisians powerless against Chelsea

Paris Saint-Germain's women's team were beaten 3-0 at Chelsea in their final UEFA Women's Champions League group stage game.

A week after their big win against Real Madrid at the Parc des Princes, Paris Saint-Germain faced up to another heavyweight in the UEFA Women's Champions League. With their knockout round place already assured, the Parisians knew a two-goal win at Stamford Bridge would see them top the group.

Coach Gérard Prêcheur started with Li Mengwen on the right side of the defence and young Laurina Fazer in midfield. Up front, Dutch international Lieke Martens was alongside Sandy Baltimore and Kadidiatou Diani.

The Rouge-et-Bleu were determined to make amends for losing the first game to the Blues, and Diani sent a 40-metre lob off the crossbar!

But gradually the hosts took the initiative. With the pressure on Sarah Bouhaddi's goal mounting, they finally cracked and Sam Kerr sent a powerful shot into the top corner (1-0, 42').

The hosts picked up where they left off at the start of the second half, and doubled their lead through James, who pounced following intense pressing from her teammates (2-0, 55'). She then added her second and the team's third soon after (3-0, 62') to leave the visitors with no way back.

Folquet and De Almeida led a Parisian rally, but there was no consolation effort as they head into the quarter-finals as group runners-up.
