The Parisians pegged back late on by Montpellier

Match reports

The Women's Team were denied victory in the closing stages as they played out a 2-2 draw with Montpellier on Saturday.

A week after their win against Reims, the Parisians got back into league action with the aim of collecting three points to up the pressure on Lyon, the current league leaders.

Gérard Prêcheur went for a front three comprising Sandy Baltimore, Ramona Bachmann and Kadidiatou Diani with the goal of breaking down the Montpellier defence.

From the off, the Parisians showed their determination and created a number of opportunities. Montpellier slowly got a foothold in the game, however, before Parisian plans were thrown into disarray with the injury-enforced withdrawal of Kheira Hamraoui (16').

Shortly afterwards, with the tactical tweak required following Jackie Groenen's appearance off the bench, the visitors went in front through Nérilia Mondésir: she found her way free of Amanda Ilestedt before firing past Sarah Bouhaddi at the near post (0-1, 24').

The Parisians soon provided a riposte. Diani's pressing enabled her to win the ball and move forward down the the left. Her effort was pushed out by the goalkeeper, but Baltimore smashed home the rebound to equalise (1-1, 32'). Mondesir might have put Montpellier back in front just before the break, but Ilestedt's well-timed challenge snuffed out the danger.

The Rouge et Bleu came out firing after the break and Groenen put her side ahead with a superb shot (2-1, 49'). Two minutes later, Diani burst forward and fired just wide with the Parisians looking likely to add to their tally.

Montpellier held out though as the hosts attacked without respite. Baltimore and Diani were a constant threat, but did not manage to find a third goal that would have given Paris room for error.

Instead, Céleste Boureille took advantage of the hosts' failure to take their own chances with a header from a set-piece that looped over Bouhaddi to earn Montpellier a point (2-2, 87') despite the hosts pushing desperately for a late winner.

Lieke Martens had a late effort that might have won it, but Paris Saint-Germain were denied all three points. Next up, there's a trip to Bordeaux for the league's eighth game of the season on 20 November.
