The Parisian women qualify for the last 16 of the Coupe de France!
Paris Saint-Germain's women's team beat their counterparts from CPB Bréquigny Rennes 4-0 at the Stade Roger Salengro on Sunday 14th January in the round of 32 of the Coupe de France Féminine. Here's a look back at the match.
Five days after their return to competitive action, marked by a flamboyant 6-0 win over Lille in the Arkema D1, the Rouge et Bleu began a completely different adventure this Sunday: the Coupe de France Féminine, where they entered the competition's round of 32. Faced with CPB Bréquigny Rennes, a D3 women's team, the Parisians' aim was to record a fifth consecutive win in all competitions and book their place in the next round.
For this match, Jocelyn Prêcheur fielded a central defensive pairing of Jade Le Guilly and Thiniba Samoura in front of goal guarded by Constance Picaud. Out wide, Tara Elimbi Gilbert played on the left, while Nicole Payne started on the right. In midfield, Korbin Albert operated in a deep-lying role, with Laurina Fazer and Ramona Bachmann in front of her. Up front, Amalie Vangsgaard was the centre-forward, with Magnaba Folquet on the right wing and Tabitha Chawinga on the left.
The first quarter of an hour was logically in the Rouge et Bleu's favour, but they struggled to find space in their opponents' tightly-packed defensive area. It was the impact created by Tabitha Chawinga that created problems for the Rennes defence, she burst down the left before picking out Amalie Vangsgaard in the centre (15'). As the half-hour approached, the Parisian ladies continued to raise their game, with Korbin Albert guiding her team forward and taking her chance with a flying shot from 25 metres that forced the opposition keeper to relax (26').
Amidst all this, our American international managed to find Chawinga in the middle, but the Parisian striker was also denied by the Brequigny goalkeeper (28'). To unlock the match, the capital club could count on its youngsters: Tara Elimbi Gilbert got the better of her opposite number on the left flank and sent in a left-footed cross for Magnaba Folquet, who headed home from close range (0-1, 36'). It was a precious goal that rewarded the dominance of the Rouge et Bleu, and allowed Paris to return to the dressing room with the lead.
In the second period, the Parisians continued to dominate and took advantage of a lightning counter-attack led by Chawinga to double their lead in the empty net, after the Malawian international took it around the goalkeeper with a left-footed feint (0-2, 50'). Just after the hour mark, the danger once again came from the left wing, where Elimbi Gilbert again burst forward to put a cross on the head of Vangsgaard at the far post, who made no mistake in front of goal (0-3, 65').
Overwhelmed, the Ille-et-Vilaine side left more space unoccupied, allowing Chawinga to dribble past the opposition goalkeeper once again to score her second and make it (0-4 68'). Les Rouge et Bleu then contented themselves with controlling the proceedings until the end of the game, marked in particular by the appearance of the very young Parisian midfielder Anaïs Ebayilin (16), making her first appearance for the women's professional team.
Paris Saint-Germain beat the valiant Breton side 4-0 to reach the last 16 of the Coupe de France Féminine. The Parisians can now get back to league action when they take on Stade de Reims at the PSG Campus on Wednesday 17th January. The match follows on from the postponed Arkema D1 match day 4, and kicks off at 9PM.
