Parisians' stunning success against Strasbourg

Match reports

Paris Saint-Germain's women's team beat Strasbourg 4-0 in their Arkema Première Ligue Matchday 7 clash at the PSG Campus on Saturday 9 November 2024.

A week after their narrow defeat away to Lyon in the league's top-of-the-table clash, the Parisians were keen to get back on track against the Alsatians. At the PSG Campus, Fabrice Abriel and his staff had to make do without a number of players, particularly in defence, with the absences of Dudek, De Almeida and Mbock.

But these enforcd changes did nothing to detract from Les Rouge et Bleues' ambitions in this game, and the Parisiennes were sharp right from the start. Marie-Antoinette Katoto opened the coring after a struggle to latch onto a long pass. When the 'keeper made a careless clearance, she was on hand to take full advantage and slid the ball into the back of the net to put her side in front (1-0, 7').

The Parisian pressure continued to mount, and Jackie Groenen hit the upright a few moments later with a curling shot that left the whole world on its feet, but there was no breakthrough on that occasion (13').

It was Katoto herself who doubled the lead after a cross from Geyoro, delivering a fierce downward header to cap an ultra-dominant first half for Paris (2-0, 38').

MAK then went on to complete her hat-trick with a magnificent third goal. Running the defence ragged on the left of the area, just near the goal, she fired from an impossible angle and somehow curled the ball in at the far post (3-0, 48'). The Parisiennes put the result beyond doubt when Dorsin made the msot of Groenen's inch-perfect ball and struck first time from inside the area after (4-0, 60'). It was the young Swede's first goal for Paris!

A sensational victory for the Parisiennes, who remain on the heels of Lyon despite the leaders' win in Le Havre the day before.
