Parisians kick off 2024 in style at the Campus

Paris Saint-Germain's Women's team defeated LOSC 6-0 on Tuesday 9 January at Campus PSG on Matchday 12 of D1 Arkema. Here's a look back at the match.

Three weeks after their UEFA Women's Champions League victory over AS Roma, Les Rouge et Bleu were back in action on Tuesday evening. This time, the Parisians were at home to LOSC on Matchday 12 of the D1 Arkema, with the aim of picking up their first win at their new home, Campus PSG.

For the match, Jocelyn Prêcheur selected a central defensive pairing of Clare Hunt and Elisa De Almeida, with Constance Picaud in goal. On the flanks, Sakina Karchaoui played on the left, while the young Manssita Traoré played on the right. In midfield, Korbin Albert was positioned in front of the defence, with Jackie Groenen and Grace Geyoro as the advanced midfielders. Up front, Marie-Antoinette Katoto was at centre-forward, with Sandy Baltimore to her right and Lieke Martens to her left.

From the start of the match, the Rouge et Bleu showed their intentions by playing high up the pitch. It was the lively Sandy Baltimore who got the ball rolling with a curling left-footed shot that went just wide (7'). But Lille were not to be intimidated, and responded with a powerful shot that forced Constance Picaud into a strong save (11'). The Parisians continued to dominate, however, and after failing to hit the target for the first time (20'), Marie-Antoinette Katoto finished from her second foray into the Lille area with a right-footed shot at the near post (1-0, 26').

After the half-hour mark, the Parisians continued to press forward, with Sakina Karchaoui taking the initiative down the left flank. It was she who provided Baltimore with the perfect assist in the penalty area, allowing Paris to double their lead with a delicate left-footed shot (2-0, 36'). Moments later, the danger came from the right, but captain Grace Geyoro was not rewarded for her excellent run and could not get on the end of the pass (40'). The two teams went into the break with the score 2-0 in favour of the Parisians.

In the second period, the Nordistes tried to respond and managed to hit the Parisian keeper's post (52'), before Karchaoui and then Elisa De Almeida took turns to protect their goal. It was a move that proved to be the turning point of the match, as it was the Red and Blues who finally scored the third goal of the game on a quick attack that saw new signing Tabitha Chawinga finish (3-0, 55'). Jocelyn Prêcheur's impressive outfit did not miss a chance to add to their tally, first with a superb shot from Sandy Baltimore (4-0, 57'), then with a shot from the edge of the area from Grace Geyoro, whose deflected effort beat the LOSC keeper (5-0, 60').

In the final half-hour, the capital club continued to dominate proceedings against a Lille side too timid to trouble the Parisian rearguard, with Picaud easily saving a shot (75'). In the dying minutes, Chawinga once again used her pace on the left wing to break into the opposition penalty area and feed Lieke Martens, who was alone in front of goal to finish (6-0, 86').

In a one-sided encounter, Paris Saint-Germain won 6-0 to record their first victory of 2024. The Parisians now turn their attention to preparing for the Coupe de France Féminine, when they travel to Brittany on Sunday. In their first match in the competition's round of 16, the capital club will take on CPB Bréquigny Rennes, who are in the Women's D3, with kick-off scheduled for 2.30pm.
