Parisian women unstoppable against Reims!

Paris Saint-Germain's women's team beat their counterparts from Stade de Reims 4-0 on Wednesday 17th January at the PSG Campus, the rescheduled fixture from match day 4 of the Arkema D1. Here's a look back at the match.

Three days after reaching the last sixteen of the Coupe de France Féminine at CPB Bréquigny Rennes (0-4), the Rouge et Bleu were back in action on Wednesday evening at the PSG Campus. The Parisians played host to 5th-placed Stade de Reims in a fixture that was rescheduled from match day 4 of the Arkema D1. Determined to pick up a second win in their new home following last week's 6-0 victory over Lille, the Parisian women's team also had the opportunity to record a 6th consecutive victory in all competitions.

For this match, Jocelyn Prêcheur fielded a central defensive pairing of Clare Hunt and Elisa De Almeida in front of the goal guarded by Constance Picaud. In the full-back positions, Jade Le Guilly played on the right, while young Tara Elimbi Gilbert started on the left. In midfield, the Jackie Groenen/Grace Geyoro duo supported Lieke Martens, who lined up as playmaker. In attack, Marie-Antoinette Katoto was the centre-forward, with Sandy Baltimore to her right and Tabitha Chawinga to her left.

Right from the start, Les Rouge et Bleu bared their teeth by going after the ball high up the pitch. Jade Le Guilly made the first break down the right flank before finding her captain Grace Geyoro at the near post, but her shot hit the side-netting (3'). Paris continued to press down the right and moments later it was Sandy Baltimore who found her way into the box to send in a cross that was met by the head of Marie-Antoinette Katoto, but to no avail (7'). The Parisian striker had another chance just before the end of the first quarter of an hour, but the Reims goalkeeper saved twice to keep her clean sheet intact (13').

Kinga Szemik kept her side in the game with another powerful header from Katoto from around the penalty spot (27'). It took a set-piece to break the deadlock, however, when Elisa De Almeida ideally deflected the Parisian corner towards Lieke Martens, who finished from close range at the far post (1-0, 31'). The Parisians then went close to doubling their lead, but Geyoro's effort was saved again by the goalkeeper (33'). The Parisians were more assertive and went into the break with the edge over their opponents.

In the second half, Les Rouge et Bleu got off to a strong start and Baltimore rattled the Champenoises' crossbar after a lively display in the penalty area. Following this, it was Katoto who finally scored Paris' second after a short corner (2-0, 48'). The chances kept coming for Paris, and Tabitha Chawinga (49') and then Tara Elimbi Gilbert (53') came close to scoring the third goal of the game.

Just after the hour mark, our young full-back found herself at the heart of a fine Parisian team move, which saw Katoto win another aerial duel before setting up Martens, who was alone in front of goal, for her second (3-0, 62')! After that, the capital club managed to hold on to their lead while continuing to play their game in the final third. This performance was rewarded with a fourth and final goal, scored by Geyoro after latching on to Katoto to complete a magnificent one-two (4-0, 90').

In a match that was controlled from start to finish, Paris Saint-Germain won 4-0 to record their third victory in as many games in 2024. Jocelyn Prêcheur's players now have three days to prepare for another league match, this time against Girondins de Bordeaux (4PM). This match will be played at the PSG Campus as part of match day 13 of the Arkema D1, before turning to a decisive UEFA Women's Champions League encounter against Ajax Amsterdam at the Parc des Princes.
