Paris through to the Round of 16

After a 4-1 first-leg win in Austria, Paris Saint-Germain's Women's team secured their place in the UEFA Women's Champions League Round of 16 at the expense of Sankt-Pölten with a 2-0 second-leg triumph.

Paris quickly seized control of the match, even if goalscoring chances were hard to come by. Vanmechelen brought a save from the visiting goalkeeper (11') before Anissa Lahmari twice sowed panic in the Austrian defence. Her first effort - a fierce shot - was blocked (27'), the second - a volley from Perle Morroni's cross - got past Olsen but went narrowly wide (36').

Pushed on by their fans after the break, Paris upped the pressure. Formiga sent a shot straight at Olsen (52') before Zamanian won the penalty that Katoto scored to open the scoring (1-0, 61'). Vanmechelen went close to doubling the lead (68'), but it was not until Melike Pekel raced clear late on that Paris claimed their second (2-0, 84'). It was the ideal way for Olivier Echouafni's squad to prepare for Sunday's league game at home to Lille.
