Les Parisiennes put on a show at Guingamp

Entering the final thrilling stretch of the season, Fabrice Abriel’s team headed west to continue their league marathon. Our Women’s team faced Guingamp, the bottom-placed side in this Arkema Première Ligue. Paris Saint-Germain’s coach had put together an exciting starting eleven, built around key players like Sakina Karchaoui, Grace Geyoro, and Marie-Antoinette Katoto.

There was no question of relying on their respective league positions to approach this match in Brittany. The Red and Blue had three clear objectives: secure a crucial victory, continue refining their team play and build confidence ahead of their upcoming challenges. Fabrice Abriel’s players stayed true to their identity, determined to dominate possession, dictate the game, and unsettle a well-organised Guingamp side.

An attacking approach that paid off. After Guingamp’s goalkeeper, Marie-Morgane Sieber, initially delayed the breakthrough, the spark came from Grace Geyoro! Initiating a brilliant team move through the middle, the French international played the ball to Sakina Karchaoui, who returned it in behind the defence, allowing Geyoro to finish with a delicate right-footed touch (0-1, 22’).

Our Parisiennes made their task easier by breaking the deadlock early, but that didn’t alter their approach. Focused and ambitious in attack, the Red and Blue continued to showcase their attacking link-up against a determined opponent whose compact defensive block limited space in the first half.

As expected, Les Parisiennes managed to extend their lead in the second half. Set up by Marie-Antoinette Katoto, winter signing Merveille Kanjinga unleashed a blistering sprint down the right flank before finishing with a perfect cross-shot into the far corner (0-2, 52’).

With fatigue setting in, spaces began to open up, and the Parisiennes took full advantage—brilliantly. This time, Korbin Albert was sent into space, dazzling her defender with a sublime feint before smashing a shot under the crossbar (0-3, 56’). A masterpiece.

Sabitra Bhandari’s goal quickly served as a wake-up call (1-3, 58’), but an unstoppable Korbin Albert responded in style. The American midfielder put on another dazzling display, weaving through the Breton defence to complete her brace (1-4, 63’).

And the show wasn’t over yet… Under pressure from a Parisian cross, Sofia Guellati inadvertently redirected the ball into her own net, adding a fifth goal for PSG (1-5, 67’). In a chaotic end to the match, Sabitra Bhandari struck again for Guingamp (2-5, 88’), but Marie-Antoinette Katoto sealed the evening with a true poacher’s goal in the dying moments (2-6, 90’). A spectacular finale to an exhilarating match.

After a well-executed collective performance, the Paris Saint-Germain Women’s team secured a commanding victory in Brittany. This result strengthens the Red and Blue’s hold on second place in the Arkema Première Ligue while boosting their goal difference. The Parisiennes will be back in league action in a week, hosting the Vertes of Saint-Étienne next Saturday at the PSG Campus. Mission accomplished.
