Parisiennes and Guingampaises share the spoils
The Paris Saint-Germain Women’s team drew 3-3 with their counterparts from EA Guingamp on Saturday 13 April at the Stade de Roudourou, on Matchday 20 of D1.
After a week of international football, Les Parisiennes returned to competitive football on Saturday afternoon. On the menu of the day for Matchday 20, a clash against EAG, who sit in 10th of D1 with 15 points, in Brittany. For the occasion, Jocelyn Prêcheur started in a 3-5-2 with Constance Picaud in goal, a central defensive unit consisting of Anaïs Ebayilin, Eva Gaetino and Thiniba Samoura. Jade Le Guilly and Tara Elimbi Gilbert at wing-back, a midfield pairing of Korbin Albert and Sakina Karchaoui, captain, and Sandy Baltimore supporting Marie-Antoinette Katoto and Tabitha Chawinga in attack.
After a balanced start to the match despite last-ditch blocks to deny Baltimore (4’) and Chawinga (9’), the latter then went on to open the game up. Played into the box, but from a tight angle on the left, the Malawi international managed to beat Marie-Morgane Sieber at the near post (0-1, 30’). A short-lived moment of joy, given that moments later, Aïssata Traoré was slightly knocked off balance by Ebayilin and won a penalty (32’), that was converted by Antonie Starova (1-1, 33’).
The match really got going after the break. Katoto first picked up the ball 25 metres out and beat Sieber (1-2, 58’). Les Bretonnes got themselves back into the match after Karchaoui pushed a ball onto the bar (64’), then Nina Richard picked the ball up and found the back of the net (2-2, 67’). A few minutes later, Maïwen Renard headed home from a wide free-kick from Sarah Cambon to give her side the lead (3-2, 75’). Paris didn’t let up and an incredible piece of control and a volley from Baltimore got the equaliser (3-3, 78’).
A draw that still allows the club from the capital to consolidate its position in second place with 49 points, 6 points behind Olympique Lyonnais and 8 ahead of Paris FC (1 game in hand). Two matches against Lyon await Les Rouge et Bleu, with the first being the UEFA Women's Champions League semi-finals on Saturday, April 20th, at 19:00 at the OL Stadium in Décines-Charpieu, followed by a home fixture at the Parc des Princes eight days later at 16:00. The derby against Paris FC, crucial in the quest for 2nd place, and which guarantees hosting the opponent in the play-offs, will take place between these two clashes on Wednesday, April 24th, at 18:30 at the PSG Campus on Matchday 21 of D1.
