Les Parisiennes secure the win at Reims
The Paris Saint-Germain Women's team secured a 2-1 victory against Reims on Saturday 16 November on Matchday 9 of the Arkema Première Ligue.
After a convincing victory against Strasbourg at home, Les Parisiennes aimed to maintain their momentum at Reims, playing at the Stade Auguste Delaune, to put pressure on Lyon, who were top of the league before this round of matches.
However, the match began poorly for the Rouge et Bleu, as they conceded the opening goal after a misplaced pass. Calba won her one-on-one duel against Mary Earps, giving the home side the lead (1-0, 6'). Stung into action, Fabrice Abriel's players sought to respond, with Marie-Antoinette Katoto taking a shot, but her effort was too tame to trouble the opposing goalkeeper (25').
The pressure on the Reims defence intensified, with the hosts struggling and conceding two quick chances. Korbin Albert came close but was denied by the home side's keeper from point-blank range. Moments later, Leuchter's cross flew through the box without finding a teammate (34').
Persistence eventually paid off as the impressive MAK leveled the score with a powerful header from an Oceane Hurtré corner kick (1-1, 38').
Mary Earps made a crucial save to prevent Reims from retaking the lead just before the hour mark, winning a one-on-one with the opposing forward to avert a blow against the run of play (56'). Once again, it was Katoto who made the difference, completing her brace with another header. This time, she took advantage of a mistake from the Reims goalkeeper, converting a cross from the right to put the visitors ahead (1-2, 68').
The Rouge et Bleu continued to press to seal the result, but the scoreline remained unchanged. Fabrice Abriel's squad secured their 8th win in 9 matches, ramping up the pressure at the top of the league table ahead of another international break.
