Les Parisiennes beat Real Madrid and head into the quarter-finals!

Paris Saint-Germain came out on top at the Parc des Princes on Matchday 5 of the UEFA Women's Champions League (2-1). A look back on this victory, which saw the club from the capital secure their spot in the knockout stage of the competition!

A few days after the precious D1 Arkema victory over their rivals from Olympique Lyonnais, which saw them climb to first place in the league, Paris Saint-Germain had another headline clash on the cards, as they took on Real Madrid on Matchday 5 of the Champions League group stage. There was one clear objective: go out and secure the victory that would guarantee their spot in the knockout stage.

For the encounter, Gérard Prêcheur maintained his confidence in the starting eleven that faced OL.

Determined to continue to surf on the wave of their good form, Les Rouge et Bleu wasted no time in marking their own territory. After Sandy Baltimore's effort which smashed against Misa's post in the 5th minute, it was Elisa De Elmeida who found the breakthrough from a corner! Found by Bachmann, the defender beat the Real Madrid keeper to open the scoring (1-0, 15').

The side from Madrid gave their best to try to turn the situation around, creating several very dangerous chances (including Toletti's effort against the post in the 35th minute), but without success. Because after a balanced yet exciting first half, it was our side that went in at the break with the smallest of leads.

It has to be said that after the break, the rhythm didn't drop off. The club from the capital showed real solidarity throughout, as they even managed to extend their lead through the unstoppable Kadi Diani from the penalty spot (2-0, 60'). A vitally important lead, given that Zornoza found the back of the net for the visitors with just ten minutes to go (2-1, 81').

In digging deep, our Parisiennes ensured they picked up the three points, which confirms their spot in the knockout stage of the UEFA Women's Champions League, even before the final match against Chelsea! Mission accomplished.
