Eva Gaetino: "We have some unfinished business"
Fresh from signing a contract extension with the capital club, the American spoke to PSG TV about her ambitions for the future.
Congratulations, Eva! How does it feel to extend your contract with Paris Saint-Germain?
"I extended my contract until 2026; it's perfect. I'm very, very happy, very excited and very proud. I'm looking forward to these upcoming years with PSG, and I'm excited to see what we do."
After six months here in what has been your first spell outside the United States, what motivated you to extend your deal?
"I chose to stay here because I think that we have some unfinished business. I think that we can be proud of our work and our accomplishments from last season, but I also think it's important to look to the road ahead of us and see all that is available for us to accomplish. Having the confidence of the club is so uplifting, and I'm very grateful to them for it."
You've also had time to settle in and get more and more comfortable with your new team...
"Yeah, I really have. Coming into this season, I feel much more equipped and I feel like I have a better sense of what is going to be expected of me and what I'm going to need to do in order to succeed."
So, what have you taken away from your first few months with Les Rouge et Bleu?
"I'm very proud because I think that the team and the club did a very good job of focusing our efforts on one game at a time and of learning and growing from each training session. I think that winning the Coupe de France was huge, but in the same stride, I think that there's more for us with the Champions League and the league. It was a little taster of what we could have, and that really makes me want to keep going."
You've always said that playing in the Champions League is a dream for you.
"Yeah, and I think that with PSG, we have the amazing opportunity to play in the Champions League but also the opportunity to win the Champions League."
Coming back onto you personally, this contract extension is also a sign of confidence from the new manager, Fabrice Abriel, who joined the club this summer. That must be an exciting challenge for you, right?
"We briefly met; I'm very excited to learn from him. I think I have a million questions in my head about soccer at all points, so I'm really excited to see his point of view, to learn from him, to have a different perspective on things and to have the opportunity to work with him."
Your head must be full of objectives, too!
"Yes! Personally, I want to be the best defender in the league and the best defender with the US. Those are very long-term goals; it's going to take a lot of hard work, a lot of trial by error and a lot of failure, but those are my goals."
Finally, do you have anything to say to our fans?
"I'm so grateful to extend my contract until 2026, and I'm so excited to see you guys in these upcoming seasons. Merci beaucoup !"
