Encouraging first test

Paris Saint-Germain's women's team produced an impressive display despite going down to a defeat in their first friendly in the USA.

The Parisians were up against Manchester City at the University of Portland's Merlo Field for their first pre-season friendly. Coach Olivier Echouafni tested all the players in his squad and even had four Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) players who had been invited to take part.

It was a young team led by Grace Geyoro which started against City, who controlled the opening exchanges, but the scoreline was still goalless at the break.

Nine changes were made at half-time with only central defenders Paulina Dudek and Rania Aouinia staying on the pitch. City pressed from the restart and went in front thanks to Nadia Nadim, teed up by Melissa Lawley (47'), and held on to their lead despite Paris pressure.

Despite the defeat, it was a promising display to take to Miami where the Parisians face North Carolina Courage for their International Champions Cup opener on 25 July.
