Christiane Endler : "Try to do even better next season"

Questioned by PSGTV while doing an individual training session at Bougival, the Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper spoke about her daily life during confinement and the premature end to the 2019-2020 season.

Christiane, how did the time away from your teammates go?
"The two months were quite difficult, notably in terms of keeping motivated to train alone. It was difficult, I miss being out on the pitch a lot, and my teammates too. But we had to keep motivated in order to keep training on your own because we need to be at our best physically when things start up again. We're now close to getting back on the pitches and that makes me very happy."

What's on the agenda in the weeks to come?
"We're waiting to know when we can start training as a squad again. There are already dates starting to circulate but there's nothing official as it depends on the situation in France and the evolution of the pandemic. For now we're continuing to train on our own at the gym or at home in order to be in optimal condition when the new season starts."

What have you missed the most during this period?
"For me, being far from my family was very difficult. I wasn't able to go to be with them and be with them in this difficult situation for everybody. I've also missed football and it's my passion and my job. It's shaken up my habits and my daily routine that I have in normal times. I miss it a lot but I try to be positive and I hope it will all be over quickly."

You've finished second in the league and you're qualified for the UEFA Women's Champions League. Are you not disappointed anyway not to be able to have fought to the end of the season with your teammates?
"Yes, because the second place wasn't the objective we had in mind. We were very close to Lyon in the table and the most important matches were still to be played, including the second game against Lyon. Unfortunately, the league season came to a premature end. I'm happy, though, that we've qualified for the Champions League next season."

Do you have a message you want to pass on?
"I'd like to say a big hello to all Paris Saint-Germain supporters. I hope they're doing OK and they're looking after themselves. We hope we'll be able to make them happy by getting back on to the pitches."
