A recap of the Parisians at the World Cup

Twelve of Paris Saint-Germain's women's team were called up to take part in the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 in Australia and New Zealand this summer. Find out how they fared after the competition.

RAMONA BACHMANN / VIOLA CALLIGARIS - switzerland

In their second-ever World Cup, the Swiss women's team featuring Ramona Bachmann and Viola Calligaris repeated the feat of qualifying for the Round of 16, this time topping their group! The Nati beat the Philippines 2-0 with a goal from Ramona Bachmann, before drawing with Norway (0-0) and New Zealand (0-0). In the Round of 16, Inka Grings' side fell to eventual winners Spain, losing 5-1.

AMALIE VANGSGAARD - denmark

In Group D, Denmark kicked off their campaign with a 1-0 win over China, Amalie Vangsgaard scoring a late winner. The Paris striker's team then lost by the same scoreline to England, the eventual finalists, before clinching second place in the group, and thus qualification, with a 2-0 win over Haiti in the final match of the group phase. In the Round of 16, Denmark took on Australia. On home soil, the co-hosts of the competition made short work of their opponents, winning 2-0.

LIEKE MARTENS / JACKIE GROENEN - netherlands

Starting in every game, the two Paris Saint-Germain Dutch players Jackie Groenen and Lieke Martens played a major part in their team's World Cup campaign. A campaign that began with a vital victory against Portugal (1-0), before drawing 1-1 with the United States. On the final day of their group phase, the Oranje-Leeuwinnen put on a show against Vietnam (0-7), including a goal from Martens. Having qualified, the Netherlands eliminated South Africa (2-0), before unfortunately losing out to Spain in the quarter-finals (2-1 a.e.t).

CONSTANCE PICAUD / ELISA DE ALMEIDA / AÏSSATOU TOUNKARA / SAKINA KARCHAOUI / GRACE GEYORO / LAURINA FAZER - FRANCE

In Group F, the French team made up of six Parisians Constance Picaud, Aïssatou Tounkara, Elisa De Almeida, Sakina Karchaoui, Laurina Fazer and Grace Geyoro finished top of their group. After failing to beat Jamaica (0-0), Les Bleues went on to defeat Brazil (2-1) before easing past Panama (6-3). In the Round of 16, Hervé Renard's side followed up with a crushing 4-0 victory over Morocco. In the next round, the French were cruelly eliminated after an agonising penalty shoot-out with Australia (0-0 a.e.t., 6-7 on penalties).

ANA VITORIA - brazil

Unfortunately, new Parisian Ana Vitoria did not enjoy the same success as her club team-mates. In Group F alongside France, the Seleção got their campaign off to an ideal start with an easy 4-0 win over Panama. But defeat by Les Bleues (2-1) and a 0-0 draw with Jamaica on the final matchday cost the Brazilians qualification. The Brazilians finished third in the group with a total of 4 points, and were therefore eliminated in the group stage.
