A cruel ending for the Parisians in Lyon

Match reports

A week after their draw at Fleury, the second-placed Parisians travelled to leaders Lyon. After a crazy game, the two teams drew 1-1.

It's always an electric, electrifying encounter. On the pitch, episode 2 of the 2023-2024 season was no exception. The two teams went head to head in a fast-paced encounter that began with an incredible save from Kiedrzynek. The Polish goalkeeper made a incredible reflex save on her line to keep out Hegerberg's close-range header from Bacha's free-kick (3').

While Lyon were forced to rely on set-pieces, the players from the capital club were posing a threat and created danger in Endler's area on several occasions. First Sandy Baltimore tried her luck from distance, before Geyoro managed to break through the opposition defence with a dazzling run down the left, only to be denied by a miraculous Lyonnais recovery.

With no goals at the break, everything was still to play for in this top-of-the-table clash that was living up to all its promise. It was Tabitha Chawinga who got the ball rolling in the second half with an incredible sprint down the right, before she curled towards goals but missed the target in front of Endler (52').

However, the Parisian striker once again broke free of the opposition defenders just after the hour mark, and this time fired past the Chilean goalkeeper one-on-one with the outside of her right foot (0-1, 66').

Then, with a quarter of an hour to go, Katarzyna pulled off a superb save. With a firm hand, she deflected an exceptional effort wide from Vanessa Gilles, and another powerful header after a Bacha free-kick (77'). But the ending was cruel, as Cascarino, in the dying moments, crossed hard in front of goal. De Almeida deflected the ball into her own net as she tried to intervene (1-1, 90' + 1). The Parisians were seconds away from a deserved win against the leaders, but they leave this evening with their heads held high.
