A cruel end

Paris Saint-Germain's women's team suffered an agonising penalty shoot-out defeat to Lyon in the first-ever Trophée des Championnes.

It was a first in women's football in France as Lyon and Paris, who have dominated the domestic league in recent seasons, contested the first-ever Trophée des Championnes at Guingamp's Stade de Roudourou.

The two teams lived up to their reputations with an exciting game. Amel Majri put Lyon in front, firing left-footed into the top corner of Christiane Endler's goal inside the opening quarter-hour (0-1, 13')

Nadia Nadim equalised for the Parisians before the interval, deserved reward for the effort put in by Olivier Echouafni's side (1-1, 43')

The two defences remained solid with Lyon coming through from the spot. The Rouge-et-Bleu must now look forward to Thursday's UEFA Champions League Last 32 second leg against Braga.
