Yoann Gibelin: 'This league is difficult for everyone'

On Saturday evening, Paris Saint-Germain Handball take part in Liqui Moly StarLigue Round 5 action in Istres. Not an easy match to handle, as our left-back Yoann Gibelin underlined.

What did you make of the victory against Créteil (35-26)?

"Créteil gave us problems in the first half. We had some trouble with our shooting. That put us in difficulty. But as the game went on, we found solutions and we were able to take a solid lead. It wasn't easy... Their game plan worked well and I think they will keep it up."

Was it special to be back at your old club?

"Yes, when you spend so much time with the players and you see them again in a different shirt, it's strange. I was very happy to see them!"

What do you think of your start to the league season?

"We started well, but unfortunately we dropped points in a difficult game in Toulouse (35-27). It was a pity, but we have managed to bounce back. We used the defeat to make progress. It's not easy to win away from home and our opponents always give 100% to beat us. It's the first time I've played in the top flight. It's even more enjoyable!"

What do you think of the level of the league?

"I already found it tough when I was at Créteil, even though we sometime managed to perform well against better-placed teams. I always wanted to know what it was like to be in the shoes of the 'big boys'. Before, I told myself that it was hard to play against Paris. Now I know that it's not easy to play one game after another, between the league and the EHF Champions League. It's really different. The pace is very high."

On Sunday you play Istres. What do you know about this team?

"Every time I've played this team, it hasn't been easy. I don't expect it to be any easier on Sunday. Especially on their turf! I've only seen a few teams win big there. Despite their current ranking, they have very good players, so it's up to us to do what it takes to win."

You arrived at the club with a small injury. How do you feel now?

"I'm better now! Thanks to the staff, I followed the right protocol to come back and regain my confidence. Gradually, I feel that my physical level is improving. I hope it will continue to do so. I want to help the team!"

How has your integration been?

"I knew a lot of people, like Elohim [Prandi] or Sadou [Ntanzi]. All the players were very nice. I had no difficulty integrating. I didn't have any hesitation and I can talk to everyone, whether it's the new players or those who were already here. I'm really happy!"
