Total control

On Saturday night, Paris Saint-Germain Handball played their match in hand in the Lidl Starligue, dominating promoted side Istres 31-24 away from home.

After holding Dunkerque to a draw on the opening day of the season, Istres did their best to hand the Rouge and Bleu a tough time of it, putting Rodrigo Corrales under the pump in the opening stages. But our 'keeper stepped up to the plate (8': 2-3) to ensure that the match remained evenly balanced in the opening minutes. Then, little by little, Raul Gonzalez's men pulled free. First of all thanks to Corrales (nine saves in the first half), but also to their formidable front line (16': 4-7). Be it on the wings, where Uwe Gensheimer and Benoît Kounkound were in fine form (25': 9-14), or through the middle with Henrik Toft Hansen (27': 9-15), the Parisians were clinical and duly earned their half-time lead (11-16).

Although the line-up changed for the second half, the shape of the match remained the same. Just after coming on, Nedim Remili found the back of the Istrean net (33': 12-18). Throughout the second half, the capital club were in control (41': 15-21), and even when the home side chipped away at the gap (43': 18-21), Raul called a time-out and the machine kicked back into gear (46': 18-24) and Paris out on a show… Already prominent in the first half, Rodrigo Corrales turned scorer in the second, firing home into Robin Capelle's empty net (51': 20-27). Meanwhile, Dylan Nahi distinguished himself with a magnificent chabala (53': 21-28) before Mikkel Hansen scored the last goal of the match to add that final touch of gloss to a deserved win (24-31).

This duel between reigning national champions (Lidl StarLigue and Proligue) went in Paris Saint-Germain Handball's favour thanks to an extremely solid performance. The result takes the Rouge et Bleu back to the top of the table thanks to goal difference (+24).
