Thierry Omeyer: 'I'm proud of the team'

On Thursday night, Paris Saint-Germain Handball were crowned Champions of France following their Lidl Starligue Round 22 win over Aix (20-29). Raul Gonzalez, Thierry Omeyer and Uwe Gensheimer spoke about the win and the title.

Raul Gonzalez (Paris Saint-Germain Handball coach):
"We have had an excellent season in the best league in the world. Our defence were really good today, and that allowed us to score from several counter-attacks. We knew that Nantes had lost to Nîmes (33-36) and that a win would see us crowned as Champions of France. That's what we did and I'm very happy. We have four matches left and we must win them all."

Thierry Omeyer (Paris Saint-Germain Handball 'keeper):

"We're very happy to have clinched the title, and to have done so in style with a victory in Aix. I'm very proud of what the team showed. Even though the opening stages were a bit difficult, we managed to bring the required intensity to our play. I'm also happy that the team managed to bounce back after our disappointment on Sunday (Velux EHF Champions League elimination at the hands of Kielce). We're having a huge season and that shouldn't be down-played. For me, I will be able to savour these last four matches, with my teammates, without pressure and with full enjoyment. I can't wait to celebrate the title with our fans, who deserve nothing less."

Uwe Gensheimer (Paris Saint-Germain Handball left-winger):

"Last season, we lost here. The first half was pretty tough, especially for our attack. But after that we really showed our drive and desire to win the match and take the league title. The last few days were tough after being knocked out of the Champions League. Our objective was to go to Cologne... But right now, we're very happy with our Lidl Starligue season; we've only dropped one point. I'll really enjoy my last few matches here. We want to finish as strongly as possible, but right now we just want to celebrate the title."
