Round of 16 return leg results

EHF Champions League Round of 16 ended last week. Paris Saint-Germain handball (exempted from this round after topping Group A), now know their opponents for the quarter-finals.

KIEL - BUCHAREST: 31-32

Big winners in the first leg (28-41), Kiel had gotten the bulk of the job done in Romania, and so it was under plenty of pressure that Dinamo Bucharest to the Wunderino-Arena. Despite being at a disadvantage, the visitors did not give up and managed to win the match. But this one win was not enough to turn the tables and Kiel qualified for the quarterfinals, where they will face Paris.

VESZPRÉM - SEZGED: 38-33

In this duel between Hungarian clubs, Veszprém had also managed a good a good start to the tie, winning convincingly on the road (23-36). Against Szeged, the hosts finished the job perfectly with another victory, thanks in particular to nine goals from Rasmus Lauge Schmidt. Despite Imanol Garciandia's ten goals, Szeged lost and were eliminated. Veszprém will face Kielce in the quarters.

NANTES - PLOCK: 29-30

Nantes seemed to have done the hardest part in the first leg. After leading by four goals at the break on the away to Wisla Plock (30': 14-18), The H ended up conceding a draw (32-32). The scenario was repeated in the second round. On home turf, the French team seemed to be in control in the first half (30': 14-11) but got caught in the second term once again. This wire-tight tie had to have a verdict, however, and it was via a penalty shoot-out that the Poles - thanks to Przemyslaw Krajewski's triumphant shot - prevailed. Plock will face Magdeburg in the next round.

GOG - AALBORG: 32-24

This clash between Danish clubs was a mouth-watering prospect and it did not disappoint! After a relatively tight first leg won by Aalborg on home turf (30-28), GOG had the chance to reverse the situation. At the break, the hosts had already managed to take the upper hand in terms of the aggregate score (30': 15-11) and they kept it up in the second 30 minutes to punch their ticket to the quarters. They will have the heavy task of facing Barcelona.
