Round of 16 first-leg results

This week the first legs of the EHF Champions League Round of 16 were played. Along with Paris Saint-Germain Handball's draw in Elverum (30-30), check out the rest of the results.

PORTO - MONTPELLIER: 29-29

Just like their compatriots from Paris Saint-Germain Handball, Montpellier brought back a draw from overseas. A fair result as Montpellier had led the dance but couldn't break clear of their hosts. In terms of statistics, Antonio Areia Rodrigues hit 6 from 6 for the hosts. The second leg will take place in France on Wednesday. A draw with fewer than 29 goals scored - or a victory - would qualify MHB for the quarter-finals.

Vardar Skopje - Veszprém : 22-30

Veszprém have one foot in the next round after winning by eight goals away to Vardar. Well led by an excellent Andreas Nilsson (author of eight goals), the Hungarians had already created an promising lead at the break (30' : 11-15). The second half was a copy of the first one, as both teams scored exactly the same number of goals. Wednesday afternoon, Kentin Mahé and his partners will try to finish the job on their home court.

Flensbourg - SZeged : 25-21

Flensburg are also in a favourable position, having racked up a four-point lead to defend at the Varosi Sportcsarnok in Szeged next Thursday. After chasing the game in the first ten minutes (10': 4-5), they took the lead (20': 10-7) and never let it go. The win comes in large part due to 'keeper Benjamin Buric, who made no fewer than ten saves.
