Pre-match: Saran - PSG Handball

On Monday night, Paris Saint-Germain Handball get back on schedule in the Liqui Moly StarLigue, travellings to the Palais des Sports in Orleans to face Saran for their rescheduled Round 13 clash.

RESCHEDULED CLASH

Les Rouge et Bleu take on Saran between their Round 16 and 17 matches in order to get their league calendar up to date. The match was initially scheduled to be played in December but, following several cases of Covid in the Saran squad, the game was moved to February 14.

THE TABLE

As was the case on Friday night, Raul Gonzalez's men face a team that is fighting for its survival; Saran are currently in the red zone. With three wins and twelve losses in 15 games, they have just six points - but they are only two points shy of safety. Fortunately, their two victories were acquired fellow strugglers: at home to Istres (29-27) and away to Nancy (27-29).

Meanwhile, the capital club continues to get good results. Last week, they continued their flawless record in the Liqui Moly StarLigue with a 15th win from as many games. If the run continues on Monday night, Paris will have a seven-point lead over its their nearest rivals (Nantes and Aix).

OPPOSING ATTACKS

The gap between the sides on the table is also reflected in the statistics. Our team dominates the league's attacking chart with 552 goals scored in 15 games, while Saran are at the other end of the table with the division's weakest attack (388 goals). However, their leading scorer, Vasko Sevaljevic, is having a great year. He is currently sixth on the Liqui Moly StarLigue's scoring chart with 90 goals!

At the other end of the court, Saran are doing much better! Fabien Courtial's players have conceded only 430 goals, for an average of 28 per game. Paris are doing a little better and boast the third-best defence (417). Individually, Saran's keeper Dan Tepper (89 saves) and Vincent Gérard (113) are also very close.

HEAD TO HEAD

This is only the fifth time the two teams have faced each other in the Liqui Moly StarLigue. The first four duels were won by our team. The last meeting was in February 2018, at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin. That day, Nikola Karabatic (nine goals), Uwe Gensheimer (eight) and Thierry Omeyer (11 saves) actively participated in the big Parisian win (40-31).
