Paris' European opponents named

The draw for the group stage of the EHF Champions League was held in Vienna on Friday. Paris Saint-Germain Handball now know who they will be facing in their bid for a sixth Final4 and continental gold!

Les Rouge et Bleu will be in Group A, along with other teams that are used to European tournaments. Although none of the opponents are new to the capital club, it has been several decades since our team faced some of their upcoming opponents, notably Magdeburg and GOG (Gudme Oure Gudbjerg Handball).

The Germans, crowned champions of the last Bundesliga campaign, reached the final of the EHF Cup last season, where they were defeated by Benfica in extra time (40-39). In the 2004-2005 edition of the competition, they faced Paris and won twice (25-30; 36-23). As for the Danes, who won their championship over Aalborg, we have to go back to the 1996-97 season to see them cross swords with PSG Asnières Handball. Our players won on their home court (25-20) before losing the return match (31-22).

Paris Saint-Germain will also meet up with several teams they have played more recently. Porto, Dinamo Bucharest and Veszprém were in the same group as our team last season. Finally, Wisla Plock (last meeting in 2016-2017 with two wins for Paris) and Zagreb (last duel in 2019-20, with two more wins for Les Rouge et Bleu) complete the table.

Note that in this group stage of two groups, each composed of eight clubs, the top six qualify for the next round (the top two qualify directly for the quarters).
