Opening win for Les Bleus

It was no easy task for France who, like in 2017, were up against Brazil in their 2019 World Cup opener at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin on Friday night. But The Experts fought to the death and ran out 24-22 winners.

Right form the off, the South Americans showed the reigning World Champions that the match would be moo walk in the park. They took the lead on several occasions (7’: 3-4) and it took some sharp shooting from Nedim Remili to get back to level terms (21’: 10-10). The equaliser did the whole team the world of good, especially the Parisians, like Luka Karabatic, who put his side three points clear just before the break (16-13).

But it was too early claim victory, especially as the Brazilians had Jose Toledo in fine form, firing 8 from 14. Fortunately, his path was often blocked by future capital club 'keeper Vincent Gerard. France's last rampart had an excellent second half to help keep his side in front (42’: 20-18), also making a decisive save to make sure Didier Dinart's men ran out winners (24-22).

It wasn't easy, but France got the job done against a valiant Brazil sidewith a performance that augurs well for the clash with Serbia on Saturday night.
