From 2015 to 2025: 4 June, a historic date for Paris
On Wednesday, Paris Saint-Germain Handball clinched the 12th French league title in club history. The triumph came after a masterful 39-31 victory over Istres, ten years to the day after Paris won the title for just their second time. We look back at a date that will go down in the history of the capital club.
At the end of a marathon run lasting almost nine months, Paris clinched their eleventh consecutive French league title, the twelfth in their history. With this latest title, the capital club has entered a little further into the history of French handball, which it has been shaping for more than a decade.
4 June 2015: Paris back on top after Tremblay win
Les Rouge et Bleu have a long history with the date of 4 June. It was ten years ago, in 2015, that Paris triumphed in style at Tremblay on the final day of the championship (20-36). It was a crucial victory, as it enabled Philippe Gardent's men to clinch their second French league title, one point clear of Montpellier.
Like Jannick Green's fine performance yesterday, it was Thierry Omeyer (15 saves) who made a major contribution to the Parisians' triumph. In attack, Mikkel Hansen's performance against Tremblay (ten goals) and Kamil Syprzak's yesterday (nine goals) are also worthy of note.
From Daniel to Noa, a generation in Rouge et Bleu
Last but not least, there is the passing of the torch from one generation to the next. In 2015, Daniel Narcisse captained Les Rouge et Bleu to his first league title, but it was his son Noa who followed in his footsteps yesterday by contributing to Paris' success. The youngster is preparing to lift his first title with his boyhood club on Sunday.
One date and two titles with a decade between them, generations of players, fond memories and records are all now linked to this date, meaning that 4 June will go down as a key date in the history of Paris Saint-Germain Handball. The capital club are now looking forward to celebrating this 12th title with their fans on Saturday when they take on Chambéry on the final matchday of the season.
