EHF Champions League: Matchday 10 round-up

Paris Saint-Germain handball's 40-33 victory over Dinamo Bucharest was an important one in the EHF Champions League. Check out the rest of the Group A results from Matchday 10.

Veszprém let loose, Berlin roll on, Pelister make moves

The undisputed leaders since the start of the European campaign, Veszprém were once again in control as they took on bottom-placed Fredericia in a clash of extremes (31-40). Thanks in particular to an excellent performance from Nedim Remili (10 from 13), the Hungarians further extended their lead at the top of the group. Pelister, for their part, won the match they couldn't afford to lose against Plock. Level on points before throw-off, this match would determine which team would spend the festive period out of the red zone. It was the Northern Macedonians, on home soil, who pulled off the coup (21-18). Finally, in a match that directly concerned Paris, Berlin got the better of Sporting in a game that could have gone either way right to the end. With less than five minutes remaining, the Portuguese were well on their way to a crucial (55': 31-32) but they succumbed in the dying moments (33-32).

The table

The defeat sees Sporting drop to third in Group A, to the benefit of Les Rouge et Bleu, who have now reclaimed second place, which qualifies them directly for the quarter-finals. On the other hand, the win in Berlin means that the Germans are now just one point behind their opponents on the night - and two behind the capital club. At the bottom of the table, Pelister now have two points more than Plock (but a worse goal difference). Meanwhile, Fredericia are three points adrift of the qualification zone, but are still in with a chance of reaching the last 16, a stage of the competition for which only a total capitaluation would see Veszprèm fail to qualify.

Next up

See you in 2025! The next EHF Champions League matchday will take place in February. On that occasion, Paris Saint-Germain handball will be at home to Plock. Sporting will be keen to keep up the pressure on Les Rouge et Bleu, and to do so, the Portuguese will have to overcome Pelister at home. Finally, Berlin host Fredericia, while Veszprem travel to Bucharest.
