All you need to know about PSG Handball - Montpellier

Paris Saint-Germain Handball is putting its Coupe de France title back on the line! In a reprise of the last final, the capital club plays host to Montpellier, in their quarter-final tie at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin on Thursday evening.

EUROPEAN DUELS

With both teams are still in the running in the EHF Champions League, this Coupe de France match has a distinctly European feel to it! After having eliminated Porto, Montpellier will face Kielce in the quarter-finals.

Les Rouge et Bleu booked their place in the quarters by beating Elverum. After a draw in Norway (30-30), they punched their ticket for the next round in style (37-30). Note that with their European status, Paris and Montpellier are making their entry into the Coupe de France fray at this quarter-final stage.

HEAD TO HEAD

Although this fixture is undoubtedly one of the classics of French handball, the two clubs have not often faced each other in this competition. This is indeed the seventh time they have faced each other in the Coupe de France. For the moment, the MHB dominates the record with five wins and two losses, but Raul Gonzalez's men, who won the final of the last edition of the competition, in Créteil (26-30), will be looking to change all that.

A LOOK BACK AT THE LAST MATCH

Matches between the capital club and Montpellier are often spectacular affairs, and the last one was no exception! After a game with many twists and turns, where both teams could have won, it was in the end the Parisians who won (33-34), thanks to a masterpiece from Mikkel Hansen on the buzzer.

A BEVY OF INTERNATIONALS

The fact that a spectacle is to be expected comes down to the fact that it will be played by very high level players; many of them represent their respective countries on the international scene. In fact, in the France team that won the Olympic Games in 2021, five were from Paris Saint-Germain Handball (Vincent Gérard, Luka Karabatic, Nedim Remili, Yann Genty and Nikola Karabatic) and two from Montpellier (Hugo Descat and Valentin Porte).
