All you need to know about PSG Handball - Chartres

On Saturday, Paris Saint-Germain Handball will be back at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin! On the occasion of Liqui Moly StarLigue Round 9, they will try to continue their perfect league run when they play host to Chartres.

The table
In the league, everything is going well for Les Rouge et Bleu. Following their victory ten days ago away to then-nearest pursuers Aix (24-35), they are now five points clear of their PAUC and Nantes, who sit in joint-second place. It should be noted that before facing Chartres, Paris won the first eight games of the season.

Meanwhile Chartres are close to mid-table and occupy ninth place with four wins, one draw and three defeats. They have managed some good results away from home, notably a 24-25 win in Chambéry in early October.

Danger men
While the CHMB do not boast the league's best attack - they sit eighth on the attacking table with 231 goals - they do have an excellent goalscorer in 28-year-old Serbian left-winger Vanja Ilic, who sits third on the scorers chart with 52 goals bagged at a 76% efficiency rate. He scored 7 from 7 in Chambéry and 8 from 10 against Toulouse (31-33) as well as hitting a buzzer-beating penalty for a dramatic win over Nancy in Round 1 (28-27).

At the other end of the court, Julien Meyer is the keeper who stands out the most for his team. With 58 saves, the French international is currently in the Top 10 on the saves chart this season - just behind our goalkeeper Vincent Gérard who has done a little better, with 69 saves.

Return home
After five consecutive away games, Paris are finally back at home! Since their last game at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin (a 36-29 victory over Chambéry on 17 October), Les Rouge et Bleu have played away from home in the Liqui Moly StarLigue (Montpellier 33-34 and Aix), in the EHF Champions League (Barcelona 30-27 and Kielce 38-33), and also in the Coupe de la Ligue, with a midweek win at Toulouse (25-39).

Head to head
This will be only the sixth direct confrontation between these two teams in the league, the first five having been won by Paris Saint-Germain Handball. In the first match, they faced each other in the Eure-et-Loir in September 2015 (20-32). That day, our team was able to rely on Fahrudin Melic's 6 from 6, but also on Thierry Omeyer's 17 saves at a rate of 50%). Finally, they played each other this summer in a pre-season friendly match, which ended with another success for the Parisians (31-35).
