Paris Saint-Germain players at the World Cup
Act 1: the 1980s
It was in 1982 that players from the club from the capital first appeared at a World Cup. Four Parisians took part in the finals in Spain: goalkeeper Dominique Baratelli and striker Dominique Rocheteau for Les Bleus, Algerian Mustapha Dahleb and the Yougoslavian Ivica Surjak.
Act 2: the 1990s
Four years after finishing third in Mexico, the French team missed the 1990 World Cup in Italy. Three players from the club from the capital were nevertheless on the trip to defend the Parisian colours.
Act 3: the 2000s
In 2002, four years after Les Bleus' historic victory, a Parisian was to be crowned World Champion during the World Cup in Japan and South Korea: the Brazilian Ronaldinho.
Act 4: World cup 2014
Four years after a 2010 World Cup without a Parisian in South Africa, Paris Saint-Germain made a comeback in Brazil. The club from the capital was represented by ten players, a new record for the club: Frenchmen Lucas Digne, Blaise Matuidi and Yohan Cabaye, Brazilians Thiago Silva and Maxwell, Italians Salvatore Sirigu, Marco Verratti and Thiago Motta, Uruguayan Edinson Cavani and Argentine Ezequiel Lavezzi, who would fail in the final against Germany.
Act 5: World cup 2018
Twelve Paris Saint-Germain players were present in Russia, a new record for Les Rouge et Bleu with Edinson Cavani (Uruguay), Alphonse Areola, Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappé (France), Angel Di Maria and Giovani Lo Celso (Argentina), Thiago Silva, Marquinhos and Neymar Jr (Brazil), Kevin Trapp and Julian Draxler (Germany), and Thomas Meunier (Belgium).
