Born into a footballing family in Amsterdam (his father was a professional footballer before becoming a youth coach at Ajax), the young Xavi had everything to become a footballer in his own right. Starting with his name, given by his father in honour of the FC Barcelona legend.
Indeed, it was in Catalonia where his football journey began, at La Masia at seven years of age. With his wonderful technique and his physical qualities, the little midfielder quickly won over his coaches, both at club and international level, with the Netherland youth teams.
But it was with Paris Saint-Germain that the young man decided to sign his first professional contract at just 16 years of age. And it was in the French capital that Xavi continued his progression from the youth academy all the way to making his first team debut… just the start of this promising career in Rouge et Bleu.
