Born on 21 January 1996 in Palma de Mallorca to a Spanish father and Dutch mother, Marco Asensio got his start in football in 2006 when he joined RCD Mallorca at the age of ten. Named Marco after a certain Marco Van Basten, his natural talent on the ball quickly convinced the club's directors to place him in the first team. In 2015, he caught the eye of Real Madrid, who did not hesitate to recruit him. However, Asensio immediately went out on loan to RCD Espanyol for the 2015-2016 season and showed himself to be a mature and clear-sighted playmaker. Over the course of the season, he delivered ten assists in the league.
He then returned to Real Madrid, where he gradually established himself. In 286 appearances for Madrid, he scored 61 goals and provided 28 assists. The 27-year-old has already racked up an impressive list of honours: three Champions League titles, three Spanish Supercups, three La Liga titles and one Copa del Rey. He also plays for the Spanish national team and won the UEFA Nations League 2023 as a starter in the final with La Roja. Joining up with compatriots Carlos Soler, Fabian Ruiz and Luis Enrique in the summer of 2023, Marco is rising to this new challenge with Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1.
