Who will be the key players in tomorrow’s match?
Thomas Tuchel takes his side to the Stade Louis II with a view to extending Paris Saint-Germain’s winning record to a staggering thirteen straight matches. Here are the key players in what will be a tantalizing game.
Paris Saint-Germain
Marco Verratti
The Italian who recently celebrated his 26th birthday has shown this season all the hallmarks of the quality player many expected he would blossom into. After a physical and accomplished performance in Tuesday’s tough away point at Napoli, Verratti will once again look to control the midfield tomorrow, and assist the wealth of creativity on offer for Paris Saint-Germain. Monaco are a team with real passing ability, and Les Rouge-et-Bleu will be relying on their #6 to disrupt them.
Presnel Kimpembe
Academy product Presnel Kimpembe has been a reliable presence at the back for Paris Saint-Germain for some years, offering The Parisian’s a left-sided outlet with excellent positional awareness who can move forward at pace and move the ball quickly. Kimpembe was described during France’s national triumph in the World Cup as “…the heartbeat of the dressing room” and it could be said he operates just as vibrantly on the pitch. Rested aside from a short cameo against Napoli in mid-week, the Frenchman could play a bigger part in Sunday’s game, in which case he will be one to watch for the visitors.

Kylian Mbappé
A name on many fans' lips this season is Kylian Mbappé. The 19 year old has continued his blistering World Cup form in the red and blue of Paris Saint-Germain this season. The striker enjoyed a period of similar success in the red and white of Sunday’s hosts before becoming a Paris player, and he’ll be hoping to remind his ex-employers why their fans were sad to see him go. Early comparisons to Les Bleus legend Thierry Henry have been paid to the boy from Bondy, and it will be interesting to see the reaction of the man in Monaco’s dugout should Mbappé produce the goods once again.
AS Monaco
Radamel Falcao
Despite AS Monaco’s disappointing start to the season, Radamel Falcao has still managed to maintain an typically impressive goal-scoring record over the current campaign. Four goals in ten games is a return not unexpected from a player of such quality. The Colombian striker will be the danger man on Sunday evening, and a player Thomas Tuchel’s defence will have to be at the top of their games to stop.

Kamil Glik
Polish center-back Kamil Glik has been ever-present in the AS Monaco starting XI this season, making 12 starts in Ligue 1. Though it hasn’t been the blistering start to the season the club would have hoped, if the Stade Louis II club are to make a comeback over the second half of campaign, Glik will be a vital component. The defender will have the task of stopping Mbappé and co on Sunday evening, it will be arguably his hardest 90 minutes of the season so far.

Diego Benaglio
Whilst Glik and his defence will be trying to prevent sight of goal, the man between the sticks is a valuable last line of defence. The Swiss shot-stopper has been ever-present for Monaco this season, and despite his side currently lying second from bottom, his side’s goals-conceded record is better then those around them in the table.
Monaco will be hoping Sunday’s game in front of their own fans proves to be a catalyst in their journey towards the summit of the league, where last season they finished second, one place below tomorrow’s opponents. The first challenge will be stopping Paris Saint-Germain’s powerful forward line.
