Warren, Rouge et BLEU

The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder has been called up to France's senior squad for the first time ahead of Les Bleus' upcoming games.

Since the start of the 2023-24 season, Warren Zaïre-Emery has gone from strength to strengh, impressing with his consistency and maturity that impress you even more when you remember he's just 17.

Man of the Match for the UEFA Champions League win over AC Milan, he's the youngest player to deliver three assists in Europe's leading club competition.

With a goal in Brest and against Montpellier at the Parc in Ligue 1, he's currently among the nominees for the UNFP Player of the Month award for October along with teammate Kylian Mbappé. And to cap it all - at 17 years and 231 days - he's the first player in the club's history to reach 20 starts in all competitions before turning 18.

All of that has led to this first senior call-up to Didier Deschamps' squad. Les Bleus have clinched their place at next summer's EURO 2024 in Germany, but still have two more qualifiers to play: against Gibraltar on 18 November in Nice and then in Greece three days later. Warren could become the youngest Parisian to represent France at the highest level, and would be the tenth player to have risen through the ranks from the PSG youth academy to Les Bleus, following in the footsteps of Luis Fernandez (34 caps as a Paris Saint-Germain player), Presnel Kimpembe (28), Mamdou Sakho (14), Nicolas Anelka (10), Adrien Rabiot (6), Alphonse Areola (3), Amara Simba (3), Jean-Claude Lemoult (2) and Clément Chantôme (1).

The midfielder would become the youngest player to wear the France shirt since 1914. He'll be 17 years, 8 months and 10 days old on the day of the game against Gibraltar. If he features in either game, he'll beat the mark of Eduardo Camavinga, who made his debut aged 17 years, 9 months and 29 days on 8 September 2020 in the 4-2 Nations League win over Croatia. He'll become the third-youngest France debutant of all-time behind Julien Verbrugghe (16 years, 10 months and 6 days in 1906) and Maurice Gastiger (17 years, 4 months and 5 days in 1914).
