Tuchel: 'I have confidence in my players'

Ahead of Saturday’s Week 27 Ligue 1 clash away to Caen, Paris Saint-Germain coach Thomas Tuchel spoke to the media at the traditional pre-match press conference.

SQUAD
Edi Cavani will train with the team for the first time today, since his injury. I’m not sure he will do the whole session, but he won’t play tomorrow. It’s too early for him and we don’t want to take any risks with Edi. Stanley N'Soki has a groin strain and Sébastien Cibois is sick and they are both missing tomorrow.

CAEN
We have to accept that everyone is thinking a little bit about the Manchester game. But we have a responsibility to be 100% focused on Caen, and the play as well as we can, like we have our last matches. I have confidence in my players, I know they are very serious about reaching our objectives. We are working on specific aspects of our game and there is no reason why we won’t be focused against Caen. If we want to win away, we need to play well, show all our qualities. The team trained very well yesterday, so I am confident. Our challenge is to stay calm and focused and avoid distractions. Caen are fighting for their survival so I expect to play against a team that will give it everything. We have to make the difference.

JUAN BERNAT
I am not surprised by how he is playing. I’m very happy to see he can play so many matches, because he didn’t play very much the last two seasons with Bayern Munich. I played against him when I was at Dortmund and he showed a lot of quality in Germany and I’m very pleased to see that he can do it with Paris. He’s a good guy, you can count on him, always smiling, he doesn’t talk much, but he’s a real professional and he also has a great sense of humour. He has a lot of quality and he’s an important player for our team, on and off the pitch. The medical staff keep a close eye on him, as they do with all the players, but we have to pay special attention of Juan because he didn’t play much the last two seasons.

MIDFIELD
It’s possible to play with Leo, Marco and Marqui... but Leo likes to sit a little deeper, like Marqui. Marco likes to see a lot of the football, play a bit higher up the pitch. You have to find the right balance. We can experiment a little, but we also have to respect the players’ character.

ANGEL DI MARIA
He plays higher up the pitch because he knows how to score goals and provide assists, even without Ney and Edi. It’s important to see him playing this well in their absence. He knows how to finish the moves, to make the difference and he is high on confidence at the moment. He is working hard and it pays off.

LEO PAREDES
He has a lot of quality. He can dictate the rhythm of our play with his range of passing. He can also help us defensively. He has to adapt to our style of play but he is very humble and works hard to improve every day. We are very happy to have him with us.
